Australian Antarctic Territory
The Australian Antarctic Territory (AAT) is a region of Antarctica claimed by Australia, encompassing about 42% of the continent. It extends from the South Pole to the southern coastline of Australia and includes significant research stations, such as Mawson, Davis, and Casey. The territory is also home to various unique ecosystems and wildlife, including seals and seabirds
Australia's claim to this territory is based on historical exploration and international treaties, particularly the Antarctic Treaty System, which regulates international relations concerning Antarctica and emphasizes scientific cooperation
The territory is administered by the Australian Antarctic Division, which oversees research activities and environmental protection efforts.
