Nigeria
Nigeria is a country in West Africa with a rich and complex history. Before the arrival of Europeans, the territory was inhabited by various cultures and empires, including the Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba, and Igbo. During the colonial period, the area was conquered by Great Britain in the 19th century, which unified various ethnic groups under the name of Nigeria. The country became a British colony in 1914.
Nigeria gained independence in 1960, but its post-colonial history has been marked by internal conflicts, civil wars (especially the Biafran War from 1967 to 1970), and military coups. In the 1990s, the country began a path toward democracy, culminating in the first democratic elections in 1999.
Today, Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, with one of the largest economies on the continent.
